Overview

The Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director to lead the organization and support its community of outdoor and experiential education professionals. This role is responsible for the overall leadership and operations of the Association—including strategic planning, financial oversight, staff management, program development, and stakeholder engagement. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and works collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and members to advance the mission of the AORE.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Strategy

    Lead AORE’s daily operations and long-term planning in alignment with the strategic plan. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the organization’s vision and goals. Track industry trends to identify new opportunities and emerging needs.

  • Operations & Program Oversight

    Oversee all programs, services, and national office operations to ensure alignment with AORE’s mission. Develop and implement effective policies and procedures. Ensure the annual Outdoor Professional Conference and other events are executed successfully.

  • Financial Management

    Lead financial planning, budgeting, and reporting in partnership with the Treasurer and Board, in accordance with the by-laws of the association. Ensure responsible fiscal stewardship and long-term sustainability. Secure funding through sponsorships, partnerships, and donor relations. Maintain records and data pertaining to membership, conference attendance, and other pertinent association information.

  • Board Engagement

    Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors. Provide regular updates, reports, and strategic insights to support board governance. Participate in and support all board meetings, evaluations, and reports.

  • Team & Culture

    Hire, support, and lead a high-performing team of staff and volunteers. Foster an inclusive, positive, and mission-aligned workplace culture. Ensure clear communication, effective training, and supportive HR practices.

  • Communications & Partnerships

    Serve as the public face of the organization and champion AORE’s mission. Build relationships with members, partners, donors, and external stakeholders. Maintain a strong and visible presence across media, conferences, and industry networks.

  • Self starter, practiced at tackling daily tasks and providing visionary leadership / strategic direction.
  • Computer proficiency in Google suites, social media, and other platforms.
Compensation and Benefits

$60,000 - $65,000 annual salary. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, flexible scheduling, health insurance, and retirement. Opportunities for performance-based incentives.

Work Environment

This is a 100% remote position with anticipated work hours of 9am-5pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Attendance at the annual Outdoor Professional Conference and other industry events is required.
