Volunteer McKinney is looking for an experienced nonprofit Executive Director who is passionate about volunteering and supporting nonprofits through training and collaboration opportunities.

As the Chief Operations Officer, the Executive Director (ED) will provide visionary leadership for Volunteer McKinney (VM) and oversee all organizational functions and operations, including finances, administration, events, marketing, and personnel management to ensure consistent delivery of services. The position reports directly to the President of the Board of Directors and works under the direction of the Board in a non-voting capacity. The ED is responsible for executing the Board’s strategic priorities on time and within budget.

As VM’s principal representative in the Collin County community, the ED is responsible for maintaining a positive image and strong working relationships with local nonprofits, residents, and stakeholders.

JOB FUNCTIONS

I. Administrative

  • Sets goals, objectives, and annual operating budget in coordination with the Board to accomplish strategic priorities.
  • Develops and implements administrative and operational processes and procedures with Board input.
  • Ensures implementation of policies and the organization’s public accountability, maintains agency property, and provides monthly reports to the Board.
  • Ensures legal compliance and organizational integrity.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and manages staff and volunteers.
  • Plans and delivers software training to community agencies and partners.
  • Oversees financial operations with support from the Treasurer and bookkeeper.
  • Collaborates with the Treasurer and Executive Committee to develop and monitor the annual budget.
  • Works closely with the bookkeeper to maintain financial records and ensure timely payments.
  • Coordinates documentation for audits as needed.
  • Leads fund development initiatives in partnership with the Board.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with diverse funding sources including corporate sponsors, donors, and event partners.
  • Oversees and/or authors grant proposals and funding applications.

IV. Marketing and Public Relations

  • Develops and executes a strategic marketing and communications plan to meet organizational and community needs.
  • Serves as the public face and voice of VM across platforms and in the community.
  • Builds strategic alliances with local leaders and organizations.
  • Uses a variety of marketing tools—social media, website, public speaking, printed materials—to increase engagement.
  • Represents VM at speaking engagements and public events to promote volunteerism and VM’s mission.

V. Programs and Events

  • Evaluates existing programs and proposes new initiatives to align with strategic goals.
  • Ensures effective delivery of community-facing programs and training sessions.
  • Implements and reports on progress against evaluation metrics tied to strategic and annual goals.
  • Plans and executes fundraising and community events in collaboration with the Board.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

I. Experience

  • Prior experience as an Executive Director (or equivalent leadership role) of a nonprofit organization is required.
  • Proven public speaking and community engagement experience.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and fund development.
  • Experience planning and executing fundraising events.
  • Experience reporting to and working collaboratively with a Board of Directors.
  • Must consistently display professionalism and maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Must have a working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software.

II. Skills

  • Strong organizational, time management, and strategic management skills are essential.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and be willing and able to use window-based operating system on the company PC daily.
  • Ability to work independently while staying aligned with Board directives.
  • High standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with teams, delegate tasks effectively, and lead with accountability.
  • Demonstrated initiative in identifying and pursuing strategic opportunities to increase organizational resources and impact.
  • Positive, solutions-oriented attitude and a commitment to moving the organization forward.
  • Confident in asking for money (grants, donors, sponsors)
  • Education seeker on the ongoing development of needs of nonprofits.
  • Proactively address unexpected challenges (e.g., funding cuts, partner conflicts)
  • Excellent time management skills to include priorities and setting time limits for completion and delegation.
  • Advocate for the cause at local events with policymakers when necessary.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • 15 PTO days per calendar year
