Job Summary:

Southside Coalition is seeking a hands-on, mission-driven Executive Director to lead the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall responsibility for Southside Coalition's operations, staff, grant portfolio, partnerships, and strategic direction.

This is a unique opportunity for a leader who can balance hands-on execution with strategic, big-picture thinking to advance the organization’s mission. In the near term, the Executive Director will focus on strengthening day-to-day operations, developing sustainable processes and infrastructure, supporting and developing staff, and ensuring successful execution of existing grant commitments. Over time, the role will increasingly focus on organizational growth, funder relationships, new funding opportunities, advocacy, and expanding the value Southside Coalition provides to its member health centers and the communities they serve.

The ideal candidate is a highly independent and resourceful leader who can move seamlessly between managing operational details and representing Southside Coalition externally. They will bring strong relationship-building skills, a deep commitment to underserved communities, and the ability to create structure while identifying opportunities for the organization’s future.

This position is based in Los Angeles and will initially work fully onsite alongside Southside Coalition's team. Hybrid flexibility may be considered after approximately six months based on organizational needs and performance.

Core Responsibilities:
Organizational Leadership & Operations
  • Provide overall strategic leadership and day-to-day management of Southside Coalition, translating priorities into effective organizational operations.
  • Strengthen organizational infrastructure by developing and documenting policies, procedures, workflows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Oversee core administrative functions, including payroll, timekeeping, employee reimbursements, vendor relationships, invoices, payments, and other organizational operations.
  • Serve as the primary organizational contact for external accounting, IT, and other vendors.
  • Identify opportunities to improve organizational systems, processes, and operational effectiveness.
  • Balance immediate operational needs with longer-term strategic priorities and organizational growth.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of six Patient Navigators and one Outreach Coordinator.
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability, and decision-making structures that enable staff to work with increasing independence.
  • Foster an engaged, collaborative, and mission-driven team culture.
  • Provide hands-on guidance and problem-solving support while building the team's capabilities over time.
Grants, Funding & Organizational Development
  • Oversee Southside Coalition's portfolio of grant-funded programs, ensuring compliance with funder requirements, timely deliverables, and effective program execution.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing funders and serve as a trusted representative of the organization.
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue grant and other funding opportunities aligned with Southside Coalition's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Support the long-term diversification and growth of organizational funding.
  • Partner with the Board to identify opportunities for organizational development and expansion.
Board, Coalition & External Relations
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors and work closely with Board Officers to advance organizational priorities.
  • Plan and facilitate Board and coalition meetings, including developing agendas, coordinating content, and documenting key decisions and next steps.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with coalition members, health centers, hospitals, funders, community organizations, and other external stakeholders.
  • Oversee patient discharge and care coordination efforts, partnering with hospital providers, health centers, IPAs, and other community-based providers to support effective patient transitions, continuity of care, and timely information-sharing.
  • Ensure monthly coalition meetings provide meaningful value to members through relevant speakers, resources, best-practice sharing, partnership opportunities, and peer learning.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen collaboration and information-sharing between hospitals, health centers, and other community partners.
  • Represent Southside Coalition at community meetings, events, and other external forums.
  • Serve as an advocate for Southside Coalition, its member health centers, and the underserved communities they serve.
Position Requirements:
