Job summary

Las Vegas NM Community Foundation seeks a full-time Executive Director to lead a mission-driven organization serving San Miguel and Mora Counties. This CEO will partner with a dedicated Board, donors, nonprofit partners, and community leaders to strengthen philanthropy across northern New Mexico.

The role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure financial strength, effective operations, and responsive community impact. Salary range shown below.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible nonprofit leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, grant writing, and philanthropic development.
  • Experience managing nonprofit finances, budgeting, and organizational operations.
  • Experience supervising and developing staff, and working collaboratively with nonprofit boards.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit governance, finance, strategic planning, HR, compliance, and organizational development.

  • Develop and oversee the annual operating budget; ensure sound financial management and fiscal stewardship.
  • Recruit, supervise, coach, and evaluate staff; foster a collaborative, inclusive workplace culture.

Lead a community foundation at a pivotal moment for northern New Mexico.

The Las Vegas NM Community Foundation (LVNMCF) is seeking a full-time Executive Director to serve as its chief executive officer and next leader. This is a rare opportunity to guide a mission-driven organization serving San Miguel and Mora Counties, working in close partnership with a committed Board of Directors, donors, nonprofit partners, and community leaders to strengthen philanthropy across the region.

The Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership while fostering a culture of collaboration, stewardship, shared leadership, and accountability. This role ensures the Foundation remains financially strong, operationally effective, and responsive to the evolving needs of the communities it serves - acting as a trusted community partner and catalyst for lasting local impact.

What You'll Do
Organizational & Board Leadership
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to implement the Foundation's mission, vision, and strategic priorities
  • Support the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities, including materials preparation, strategic recommendations, and board recruitment/orientation
  • Promote an organizational culture grounded in integrity, accountability, respect, and service
  • Lead fundraising and resource development efforts
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, businesses, and public funders
  • Identify and pursue grant opportunities; prepare or oversee grant proposals and funding applications
  • Support endowment growth, planned giving, and long-term philanthropic sustainability
Grantmaking & Community Investment
  • Oversee grantmaking and scholarship programs, ensuring practices are transparent, equitable, and aligned with community priorities
  • Monitor community impact and organizational outcomes
  • Build relationships that strengthen nonprofit partners beyond grant funding
  • Develop and oversee the annual operating budget; ensure sound financial management and fiscal stewardship
  • Work closely with the Board Treasurer, accountant, and auditors
  • Maintain effective operational systems, policies, and internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and nonprofit regulations
  • Oversee facilities, equipment, and vendor relationships
  • Recruit, supervise, coach, and evaluate staff
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, high‑performing workplace culture
  • Support employee growth, leadership development, and professional learning
Community Engagement & Representation
  • Serve as the Foundation's primary representative throughout northern New Mexico
  • Build authentic relationships with nonprofit organizations, donors, local governments, businesses, and community partners
  • Represent the Foundation at community meetings, public events, and regional initiatives
What You Bring

Required:

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible nonprofit leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, grant writing, and philanthropic development
  • Experience managing nonprofit finances, budgeting, and organizational operations
  • Experience supervising and developing staff, and working collaboratively with nonprofit boards
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit governance, finance, strategic planning, HR, compliance, and organizational development

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with community foundations, philanthropy, grantmaking, or charitable organizations
  • Experience with donor stewardship, endowment management, planned giving, or donor‑advised funds
  • Understanding of nonprofit financial statements, audits, and IRS Form 990 reporting
  • Knowledge of and experience working with the diverse cultures, histories, and communities of northern New Mexico - genuinely valued, but not required to apply

Salary range: $75,000-$105,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits package may include health insurance, paid vacation/sick leave/holidays, professional development opportunities, flexible work arrangements when appropriate, and mileage reimbursement for approved business travel.

Location & Working Conditions

This position is based in Las Vegas, NM, serving San Miguel and Mora Counties, with on‑site presence required and some remote flexibility when appropriate. Regular regional travel, occasional evening and weekend meetings, and a valid driver's license with reliable transportation are expected.
