Job summary

The Town of Vail seeks a Deputy Fire Chief to lead VFES operations, training, and logistics. You will drive strategic initiatives, manage budgets, and ensure readiness for all emergency responses while collaborating with town departments and external agencies.

The role requires extensive fire service leadership, advanced certifications, and a commitment to public safety excellence within the VFES team.

Qualifications

At least ten (10) years of fire service experience, including five (5) years in a managerial or supervisory role.
Bachelor's degree in Fire Administration preferred.
Candidate must hold a Fire Officer I certification or higher and EMT certification (Colorado or NREMT).
Willingness to obtain Colorado licensure within two (2) months of hire.
Required NWCG/IC training: S-290, L-280, S-131, S-130/190, S-200, S-215 and IC/NIMS courses.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership and oversight of Operations, Training, and Logistics.
Oversee emergency and non-emergency operations and readiness across divisions.
Direct departmental budgeting, staffing, and capital planning.
Represent the Fire Department in interagency, community, and board meetings.
