Banc of California, Inc. is seeking a VP, Data Governance Steward to lead governance across enterprise data assets, ensuring high data quality, metadata accuracy, and compliance with data standards.

This role engages with senior leaders to shape data strategy and risk posture and drives remediation across business, operations, and technology teams. The incumbent will supervise critical governance activities, establish cross-functional governance programs, and advise on data risks and controls

Qualifications

• Advanced data governance expertise and practice across enterprise data domains.
• Strong business judgment and ability to communicate complex risks to senior audiences.
• Ability to lead governance initiatives independently with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a data governance lead and subject matter expert for assigned enterprise data domains, advising business, operations, technology, and risk stakeholders.
• Lead governance activities for Key Data Elements including identification, tiering, definitions, classifications, metadata, and ownership.
• Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders across business, operations, technology, and risk to drive timely governance decisions.
• Evaluate adherence to enterprise data governance requirements and standards for assigned data domains.
• Monitor data quality and controls to identify trends and potential data risks.
• Identify, document, and escalate material data risks, governance exceptions, and control deficiencies to leadership.
• Oversee root cause analysis and remediation plans for data-related issues.
• Provide governance oversight for data validation activities involving Key Data Elements where applicable.
• Advise teams on governance requirements and best practices for initiatives affecting critical data.
• Represent data domains in enterprise governance forums and regulatory or audit discussions.
