Job summary

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County seeks an experienced, strategic executive to lead city and county operations with a focus on disciplined partnership between elected and professional leadership. This role demands sound financial judgment, operational discipline, and a long-term commitment to institutional-building for residents and staff.

The position carries a salary range of $300,000–$335,000 (DOQ) with comprehensive benefits including health coverage, wellness programs and the KPERS

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field
• Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible executive leadership experience in city or county government, including at least two years as City/County Manager or Administrator preferred
• Experience working with Mayor/Council, Commission or similar governance structures
• Proven ability to build and lead an executive leadership team
• Strong financial leadership including budgeting, forecasting, reserve management, capital planning and financing
• Track record of delivering major initiatives from concept to measurable completion
• Residency within Wyandotte County within one year of hire

Responsibilities

• Oversee all city and county operations and budget oversight
• Lead long-range financial forecasting, capital planning and debt management
• Develop strategies to strengthen long-term fiscal capacity and ensure accountability
• Build and maintain effective partnerships with elected officials and regional entities
• Lead an executive team and ensure timely decisions with clear accountability
• Manage relationships with a Mayor/Council, Commission or similar governance structure
