Position Overview:
The Executive Chef plays a key role in ensuring the success of fresh food production at Rainbow Blossom. This leadership position oversees all commissary kitchen operations and food service across six retail locations, ensuring compliance with company policies and standards.
Responsibilities include hiring, training, and mentoring staff, as well as maintaining accountability through performance management and, when necessary, disciplinary actions or terminations. The Executive Chef is also responsible for achieving departmental goals and financial targets. This is a full-time position (approximately 40 hours per week) reporting directly to the Business Strategy and Innovation Manager.
Requirements for Consideration of Employment
- Recent 3+ years' experience in kitchen management, recipe development, category and product management, department management, and/or retail and customer service management. Associate or bachelor's degree, or culinary degree preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel
- Must have a Food Service Manager Certification completed within 90 days of hire.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, strong attention to detail, ability to review, understand and explain financial reports.
- High degree of organization, able to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
- Working knowledge of local, State, and Federal compliance programs including pertinent Health Code, Department of Agricultural needs, and OSHA.
- Proficiency in retail math
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel among Rainbow Blossom locations in the Louisville metro area and as needed.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience with Sales/Sales support and Marketing.
- Supervisory experience which includes hiring, training, evaluating, and delegating tasks.
- Ability to learn new POS and Windows-based Back of House software systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Be available on-site 40 hours each week to support the team.
- Must be able to handle multiple demands in a calm and orderly manner, addressing each issue according to its priority.
- Actively mentor staff, providing support and feedback based upon performance.
- Ensure that staff meets job expectations.
- Training all staff on the operational and merchandising standards of the department.
- Update employees on all changes to policies or department practices.
- Create an avenue for staff feedback and open discussion through regular check-ins with your team.
- Understand and effectively communicate the Rainbow Blossom's goals and vision.
- Understand and follow all Rainbow Blossom policies and procedures.
- Maintain a positive attitude and the highest levels of professionalism as you lead your team.
- Must be highly organized and follow through consistently on commitments.
- Assist in the hiring process for culinary department team members, including candidate screening and collaboration with Business Strategy and Innovation Manager for organized interviews.
- Cover for Culinary Department team members during vacation periods and serve as the point of contact for on-call responsibilities in the case of staffing emergencies in the food service departments.
- Support your team, your fellow managers, and the Store Managers by being a leader in the company.
Customer Service
- Practice both internal and external customer service by greeting and acknowledging all persons.
- Respond to customer questions in a respectful and informed manner.
- Must be able to provide the highest level of customer service to our customers, going above and beyond to take care of their needs.
Culinary Department Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a set of menus, recipes and costing for food service items. These should be revaluated regularly (at minimum, twice a year).
- Make seasonal updates to recipes and menu offerings based on ingredient availability and quality.
- Oversee catering and special orders, ensuring quality, efficiency, and alignment with company standards.
- Conduct regular cleanliness and operational checks in each department and facilitate monthly meetings with team to address needs and concerns.
- Conduct thorough data tracking and analysis for the culinary department, generating reports and creating strategic plans to guide decision-making.
- Maintain proper food safety guidelines based on local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure only the highest quality product is offered to customers.
- Order supplies and ingredients, as needed, to maintain the proper production levels for the culinary department.
- Monitor inventory levels, minimize waste, and control food costs to maintain efficiency and profitability.
- Research food trends and develop new menu items that align with the company's brand, customer preferences, and seasonal availability.
- Manage relationships with suppliers to ensure high-quality ingredients, negotiate pricing, and identify new sourcing opportunities.
- Work with the marketing team to develop promotional food events, seasonal product launches, and special offerings.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained, coordinating repairs or replacements as needed.
- Submit invoices for payment in a timely fashion, following company procedures.
- Order supplies for Culinary Department, as needed, as a part of the supply ordering process.
- Track supply ordering budgets.
Physical Requirements
This position will be required to lift up to 20 pounds often and 50 pounds rarely. This position will often be indoors in a climate-controlled environment, with occasional outdoor exposure, which could consist of hot and cold temperatures as well as potential exposure to wind and precipitation.
This position will be expected to work occasionally in a cooler and freezer. This position will be expected to stand, walk, and sit often, to squat or kneel occasionally, and to climb rarely. This position will require traveling to other stores and is primarily an in-person position. Remote hours are available upon request and require approval through management.
