Chartwells K12 is seeking an experienced Chef Manager to support the Gresham-Barlow School District in Gresham, OR. This leadership role oversees daily culinary operations across 20 schools serving more than 10,000 students, with responsibilities including menu implementation, inventory management, and ensuring food quality and safety.

The role requires hands-on kitchen leadership, a collaborative style, and strong computer skills.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in culinary artspreferred or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of culinary/kitchen management experience preferred.
• Shown success in high-volume foodservice operations, with a solid base in institutional and batch cooking.
• Hands-on chef experience is critical, with knowledge of food trends, quality, production, sanitation, cost control, and presentation.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite and email systems.
• Willingness to actively engage in client satisfaction programs and activities.
• ServSafe certification is highly desirable, highlighting a dedication to food safety.

• Develops regular and specialty menus in line with K12 standards, ensuring adherence to portioning and presentation guidelines.
• Trains kitchen staff in food preparation, equipment operation, and safety protocols, promoting a culture of excellence.

• Handles inventory of food and supplies, optimizing utilization while ensuring vital products are readily available.
• Ensures compliance with health and sanitation regulations through meticulous adherence to department procedures and participation in audits.
• Actively participates in departmental meetings, staff development initiatives, and professional programs to stay abreast of industry trends.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of a dining service operation.

Job Summary

Chartwells K12 is seeking an experienced Chef to support the Gresham-Barlow School District in Gresham, OR. Reporting to the Director of Dining Services, this leadership role oversees daily culinary operations across 20 schools serving more than 10,000 students. Responsibilities include menu implementation within established guidelines, multi-unit food production oversight, inventory management, purchasing approval, catering events, and ensuring consistent food quality, food safety, and operational excellence throughout the district. The Chef Manager will also support student engagement programs such as Discovery Kitchen and Mood Boost.

We're looking for a hands-on, team-oriented leader who enjoys developing people and working alongside their team to deliver a great dining experience for students and staff. This role partners closely with the Director of Dining Services, two Assistant Directors, and a frontline team of approximately 90 Chartwells associates. The ideal candidate will bring strong food service management experience, a collaborative leadership style, solid computer skills, and the flexibility to step in and support operations wherever needed. Success in this position comes from building strong relationships, coaching and training team members, and creating a positive, service-focused culture.
