Chartwells K12 is seeking a Chef for our premiere K12 district in Norwich, CT. You will lead culinary operations with creativity and precision while upholding a safe, sanitary work environment. Reporting to the Director, this role offers an entrepreneurial culinary leadership opportunity in a dynamic school setting.

The successful candidate will develop menus, train staff, manage inventory, and ensure adherence to health and sanitation standards in a busy dining service operation.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in culinary arts or equivalent experience.
• Two plus years of culinary/kitchen management experience (catering experience preferred).
• Proven success in complex foodservice operations with institutional and batch cooking.
• Hands-on chef experience with focus on quality, sanitation, cost control and presentation.
• Proficiency in MS Office and email systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop regular and specialty menus in line with K12 standards, ensuring proper portioning and presentation.
• Train kitchen staff in food prep, equipment operation and safety protocols.
• Establish and maintain cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment and work areas.
• Manage inventory of food and supplies, optimize utilization, ensure vital products are available.
• Ensure compliance with health and sanitation regulations through audits and procedures.
• Participate in departmental meetings, staff development, and professional programs.
• Perform other duties to support efficient dining service operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree desired or equivalent experience in culinary arts.
• Two plus years of culinary/kitchen management experience, (with catering experience preferred).
• Proven success in complex foodservice operations, with a solid base in institutional and batch cooking.
• Hands-on chef experience is critical, accompanied by solid knowledge of food trends, emphasizing quality, production, sanitation, cost control, and presentation.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite and email systems.
• Willingness to actively engage in client satisfaction programs and activities.
• ServSafe certification is highly desirable, highlighting a commitment to food safety.
