Responsibilities
- Prepare meals from standardized recipes in accordance with orders in a timely and attractive manner.
- Set up food service line and workstations with needed condiments.
- Ensure all condiments and garnishes required are prepared and served with the appropriate foods.
- Assist in recipe and menu development.
- Coordinate preparation for the following day’s menu.
- Lead pre-meal meetings with food servers to review the details of the daily menu.
- Assist with training new kitchen employees.
- Ensure adequate staffing each shift and coverage for absences to prevent coverage gaps.
- Assist with employee scheduling within the department.
- Assist with food ordering, monitor inventory, and create the menu cycle.
- Maintain cleanliness of stock rooms, coolers, and freezers, and ensure proper storage, labeling, and dating of perishables.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and food preparation standards according to health department codes.
- Minimize food waste through proper storage and recycling techniques.
- Manage and supervise culinary staff including Sous Chefs, Cooks, Lead Cooks, Prep Cooks, and Utility Workers.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in a commercial kitchen or related certification/degree.
- Associate’s Degree in a culinary-related field preferred.
- Serv Safe or equivalent certifications as required by local regulations.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with co-workers and residents.
- Pride in the quality and presentation of food prepared.
- Basic to advanced cooking and meal preparation knowledge.
- Understanding of food service techniques and requirements.
- Excellent management skills and a collaborative work attitude.
- Ability to multitask efficiently and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
