Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School is seeking an Executive Career Coach to support EMBA students and alumni on leadership development and career transitions. This is a casual, hourly role located in a hybrid environment and guiding a team of coaches.

The position emphasizes one-on-one and group coaching, collaboration with Employer Relations, and delivering career education programs, with a focus on diverse populations and international students. Hybrid schedule in DC area is typical.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling or related field.
  • At least 3 years of related professional experience.
  • Education substitutes may apply per Johns Hopkins equivalency rules.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and group career coaching for full-time/part-time graduate business students and alumni.
  • Design and deliver in-person and virtual career education programs and resources.
  • Collaborate with Employer Relations and cross-department colleagues on industry programming.
  • Lead content for special topics within business career development (e.g., Pre-Employment Assessments, Case Interviews).
  • Maintain coaching records and follow up with students and alumni to track progress.

The Executive Coach partners with graduate students through transformational coaching methods and holistic life design concepts to empower them to realize and achieve their full professional and leadership potential.


JHU Carey Business School is seeking an experienced professional for the role of Executive Career Coach. This position serves as a dedicated coach for Executive MBA (EMBA) students, supporting experienced professionals as they navigate leadership growth, career advancement, and executive-level transitions. This is a casual, hourly position.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Partner with a team of program-aligned coaching and career education colleagues to provide 1:1 and group career coaching and education for full-time and part-time graduate business students and alumni.
  • Provide coaching and career education programming to help students realize their potential, build their professional brand, increase their readiness to network with global employers and alumni, navigate career transition/advancement/management, and achieve their unique career goals.
  • Designs and implements in-person and virtual career education and professional development programs/resources.
  • Partner with cross-department colleagues to create and prepare students for networking and mentoring opportunities. Works with Employer Relations team members to collaborate on industry programming and promotion of industry/employer opportunities.
  • Serve as primary resource/content point person for special topics within business career development (i.e. Pre-Employment Assessments, Case Interviews, International Students); identified topic areas/trends shared across the Career & Life Design team.
  • Collaborate with department, school and JHU stakeholders on department and cross-department/university initiatives.

Career and Leadership Coaching
  • Coach individuals and groups in working toward achieving their career and professional development goals.
  • Utilize coaching techniques and resources that meet the needs of diverse populations, including international students.
  • Administer and walk-through assessments, including Career Leader and Clifton Strengths.
  • Maintain accurate and complete coaching records. Follow up with students and alumni as needed to track progress and encourage engagement with resources.
  • Educate students on effectively utilizing extensive school and JHU-wide career education tools and resources.
  • Partner with students to identify and make referrals (where appropriate) to opportunities and resources provided by other student experience teams and throughout JHU and business ecosystems.

Career Education & Program Development
  • Design and deliver in-person and virtual customized career education programs (video/online content, workshops, panels, networking events, professional development courses) and services for students.
  • Develop strategic relationships and collaborate with key academic stakeholders (program directors, academic program managers, faculty, etc.) to facilitate continuous needs assessment and the effective implementation of professional development for students and alumni.
  • Assist with communication efforts to promote initiatives and resources of the department via program-aligned communication channels.
  • Measure the efficacy of professional development programs and use outcomes-based data to influence programming.

Project Management
  • Lead and/or collaborate on projects that support the mission of the department.
  • Represent the department on school and/or University-wide committees, as assigned.
  • Engage internal partners within Johns Hopkins community, notably Integrative Learning and Life Design (ILLD) and career services teams across JHU graduate programs, in order to share resources and best practices.
  • Actively engage with professional organizations in the career development field, and follow trends, resources and innovations in the career.
  • Other duties as requested.

In Addition to Duties & Responsibilities Above
  • Serve as the lead coach for the Executive Coaches, providing guidance, coordination, and support to a small team of coaches.
  • Support executive level or pre-executive level employees for leadership positions across business industries.
  • Partner with EMBA program leadership, faculty, and staff to align coaching services with program objectives and student development needs.
  • Design and deliver the Executive MBA group coaching curriculum.
  • Remain current on trends in executive leadership development to inform coaching and program design.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.¯
  • Three years of related professional experience.¯
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education permitted by the JHU equivalency formula beyond a high school¯diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five + years professional work experience in career coaching/counseling and/or career services.
  • Certification or licensure as a professional coach or counselor; preferred emphasis in career development/transition.
  • Experience working in or preparing graduate-level students for employment across business industries.
  • Facilitation, teaching and/or training experience presenting to both large and small groups, virtually and in-person.
  • Experience working with diverse and global populations.
  • Certification and/or experience utilizing varied career assessments.
