WETA and NewsHour Productions are seeking an Executive Assistant in the Washington, DC area to provide high-level administrative support to senior leaders. The role includes managing complex calendars, travel bookings, expense reports, and coordinating meetings for PBS News executives.

The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS degree, strong written and verbal communication, discretion, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Administrative office experience in an executive-level office environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to well-represent the company and its executives through great follow-through skills and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures. Demonstrated writing skills for business correspondence.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must exhibit ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding and application of computer technology to efficiently accomplish work using Microsoft Office programs, email, Internet, database management software
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work unconventional hours, at times with little or no notice in a breaking news environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-going, high-level and complex administrative support.
  • Manage and maintain daily and long-range calendars and schedules for PBS News’ Senior Correspondent and PBS News Senior Executive Producer.
  • Provide additional support as needed to the WETA Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings and events, book travel and manage expense reports for same.
  • Manage communications, invitations and meetings.
  • Maintain departmental files including monthly finance statements, previous budgets, etc.
  • Assist with meeting materials and presentations.
  • Manage matters with discretion
  • Serve as liaison to staff.
  • Serve as the go-to person for staff needs: Work and partner with other departments to resolve any issues.
  • Coordinate and schedule PBS News new hire orientations.
  • Office managerial duties including ordering meals for staff for special events, ordering office supplies, maintaining updates to staff phone lists.
  • Other administrative work to ensure the smooth operation of a busy newsroom and office.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Executive Assistant provides on-going, high-level and complex administrative support to PBS News, including, but not limited to, managing the schedules and expenses of the PBS News Senior Executive Producer, The PBS News Senior Correspondent, and the WETA Executive Vice President and Chier Content Officer.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide on-going, high-level and complex administrative support.
  • Manage and maintain daily and long-range calendars and schedules for PBS News’ Senior Correspondent and PBS News Senior Executive Producer.
  • Provide additional support as needed to the WETA Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings and events, book travel and manage expense reports for same.
  • Manage communications, invitations and meetings.
  • Maintain departmental files including monthly finance statements, previous budgets, etc.

LOCATION

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
