Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Railroad operations experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate by hand signals, radio and lantern with Conductor and other crew members.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and instructions.
• English reading, writing and speaking required.

Responsibilities

• Operate steam locomotives in compliance with railroad operating rules and safety regulations.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of locomotive equipment.
• Coordinate train movements with the conductor and other crew members.
• Monitor locomotive performance, gauges, steam pressure, and operating conditions.
• Ensure safe handling of passengers during excursions and special events.
• Complete required operational documentation and reports; communicate via radio and other railroad methods.
• Assist with special excursion events, including holiday and dinner train operations.
• Report mechanical or safety concerns promptly.
