Job summary

King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is recruiting Exceptional Entry Deputies who will complete the WA BLEA within one year of application or have fewer than 12 months as a full-time commissioned officer. The role offers an expedited onboarding path and a chance to serve a large, diverse community across unincorporated areas and contract cities in King County.

Qualification requires U.S. citizenship or eligible status, English fluency, and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: United States citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident, or DACA recipient.
• English fluency: read, speak and write in English.
• Age: must be at least 20.5 years old at application.
• Education: high school diploma or GED.
• PST/PH S: Personal history statement not older than 6 months.
• Background: meet KCSO background standards per Civil Service Rules.
• BLEA requirement: complete WA BLEA within 1 year OR <12 months of experience as full-time officer.
• Out-of-state: if living outside WA, must be certified and meet WAC; may require 80-hour equivalency academy.

Responsibilities

• Patrol designated areas and respond to service calls.
• Interview victims and witnesses; secure and gather evidence.
• Complete incident and arrest reports and other admin tasks.
• Investigate family disputes and maltreatment cases.
• Respond to calls involving persons with social or behavioral problems.
• Be a community resource and engage in community activities.
• Testify in court and present facts accurately.
