Job summary

Orange County Schools in Hillsborough, North Carolina seeks an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support EC teachers and students with disabilities, providing academic and personal care assistance. The role includes Monday–Friday work, 40 hours per week, 10 months per year, with responsibilities ranging from assisting with instruction to managing student safety and mobility.

CPI certification may be required for ED students; a NC driver’s license is also needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with exceptional children.
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teacher with duties to achieve instructional and behavioral objectives.
• Work with individuals, small groups, or large groups as assigned by the teacher.
• Assist with behavior modifications as requested by the teacher.
• Life, move, and operate adaptive equipment.
• Assist students with personal care tasks, including toileting and hygiene.
• Escort students as assigned by teacher or administrator.
• Monitor students during assigned periods for safety and learning.
• Maintain confidential records and assist with staff development activities.
