Job Description
POSITION: Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
PURPOSE: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage instructional time, ensuring materials and supplies are ready, students on task and time‑on‑task levels high.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior, verbal participation, movement, and transitions; monitor behavior and address infractions consistently.
- Deliver clear, engaging lesson presentations, using understandable language, examples, demonstrations, and appropriate questioning; pace lessons effectively.
- Monitor student performance through oral and written checks, maintain standards and due dates.
- Provide feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work to promote student growth.
- Plan instruction aligned with curriculum, use diagnostic data, maintain accurate records, and utilize resources to support instruction.
- Interact fairly and effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and community.
- Perform non‑instructional duties as assigned, comply with laws and policies, and follow professional development plan.
- Perform other related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or related field qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications
- Physical: use of equipment and tools, light work standing/walking.
- Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal aptitude, numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, interpersonal temperament, physical communication.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Monitor safety and well‑being of students in inclusive activities.
- Motivate students, maintain a clean environment, perform clerical duties, maintain order and discipline, operate office machines, keep files and records.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions, establish effective working relationships.
