Job summary

Granite Construction is seeking a Backhoe Operator to support earthmoving tasks at our project sites. You will operate a hydraulic shovel attached to a tractor or train, dig trenches and holes, and assist with material handling under supervision.

The role includes on-the-job training, emphasis on safety, and the ability to work in dusty or dirty surroundings. A High School Diploma or equivalent and proper certification are required to join our team.

General Summary

Operates a backhoe (hydraulic shovel attached to tractor or train) which digs holes and trenches and removes and transports earth, gravel and other such materials. The position includes on-the-job training.

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Moves hand and foot levers to control hydraulic shovel.
• Uses shovel to dig trenches and holes of specified length, depth and width, remove loosened material and put in piles or transport trucks.
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.

Education

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience.

Certification

• Proper certification required.

Work Experience

• Appropriate training and experience required.

• Practice good safety habits.
• Work in dusty or dirty surroundings.
• Follow instructions and meet set standards.
• Judge distances and slopes accurately.

Physical Requirements
