Job summary

Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to develop computational fluid dynamics tools for exascale computing, leveraging AMReX and the lattice Boltzmann method to enable broader access to high-fidelity simulations on the Aurora system.

The position emphasizes scalable solvers, physics-based adaptation strategies, and collaboration across the CPS division to solve bubbly flows, emulsions, sedimentation and other complex multiphase problems, with a strong focus

Qualifications

• Recent or soon-to-be-completed Ph.D. in mechanical/aerospace/chemical engineering, applied mathematics or a related discipline.
• Experience in numerical methods and CFD development using mesh-based scientific codes.
• Expertise in the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) as evidenced by their publications.
• High performance computing (HPC) experience in code development with parallel programming techniques using the message passing interface (MPI) library.
• Proficiency in writing code with C, C++ and/or Python.
• Ability to demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to model Argonne's Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Develop a massively parallel CFD solver for Aurora using AMReX and LBM.
• Create flow/geometry-aware refinement strategies for efficient simulations.
• Collaborate with CPS and Argonne teams on exascale computing challenges.
• Publish results and contribute to advancing high-performance CFD methods.
