Job summary

GA Group in Chicago seeks an Examiner (Field Exam) to assess collateral records and borrower financial reports for asset-based lending. You will contribute to valuations and loan structuring with a detail-oriented, analytical approach.

The position is full-time in a hybrid setup with 2–3 days in the Chicago office and up to 35% travel; a bachelor’s in accounting and 2+ years in financial services are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in financial services, lending, or related fields.
  • Advanced knowledge of income statements and balance sheets.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and written/verbal English communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and general office software.

Responsibilities

  • Performs in-depth testing and analysis of collateral (Accounts Receivable and Inventory) for asset-based loans to verify existence and identify weaknesses.

POSITION SCOPE

Our Field Examination team consists of seasoned professionals in banking, accounting and business services, and assists banks, private equity firms, hedge funds and factors in successfully structuring asset-based loans. Our experienced team has completed assignments in almost every industry and company life-cycle, both domestic and international. We have advised clients on unusual collateral types and executed transaction-specific diligence.

We are looking to add a Field Examiner to a collaborative team who will assist in the analysis of existing and prospective borrower's collateral records and financial reports to determine collateral values that support asset-based loans. Duties of a Field Examiner have a significant impact client companies and lending institutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Performs in-depth testing and analysis of collateral (generally Accounts Receivable and Inventory) securing loans to potential/existing borrowers in order to verify existence, and to identify and highlight areas of collateral weakness or deterioration.
  • Assists in the preparation of field examination reports and supporting workpapers that communicate in writing findings and material variances found, conclusions reached, and recommendations on potential mitigants.
  • Participate in management interviews at the subject companies, gaining insight into their financial, collateral, and operational management.
  • Effectively sets priorities and works in an organized manner while managing multiple moving deadlines
  • Builds, maintains, and manages effective relationships and communication with subject companies throughout the field exam process
  • Ensures internal communication and coordination within the exam team is effective and consistent throughout the process, keeping all members up to date
  • Performs site visits as needed; travel could represent up to 35% per month
  • Participate in client meetings/report deliveries as needed.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in financial services, lending, transaction advisory services, auditing or demonstrated ability to produce high quality financial analysis. Experience in Financial Collateral Examination is a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of Income Statements, Balance Sheets and relevant accounting concepts
  • Detail-oriented, able to effectively manage time, strong planning skills, and excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel operations
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills to include, Microsoft Office applications, as well as other office software products in a Windows environment
  • Ability to work in the Chicago office and travel as needed for client visits
Location

The candidate will work a hybrid schedule, with the expectation to work from the Chicago, IL office 2-3 days per week.
