Job summary

Riverview Animal Hospital in Durango, CO is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Room Assistant to join our growing, AAHA-accredited practice. We offer state-of-the-art diagnostics, surgery, and wellness services across 10 doctors in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Professional client communication and education including taking medical histories and symptoms with EMR experience.
  • Answer questions after appointments and ensure patients' medications, aftercare, education, and follow-up are understood.
  • Provide excellent customer service to keep both pets and clients comfortable and their needs met.
  • Perform hematology, cytology, urinalysis, blood chemistry, and fecal laboratory procedures.
  • Conduct diagnostic imaging, including radiographs and ultrasound.
  • Restrain pets for veterinarians and nurses as needed.
  • Anticipate doctors' needs for well and sick pet appointments.
  • Provide compassionate care, monitor and report physical signs; assist hospitalized patients if needed.

Veterinary Room Assistant Role Requirements
  • Veterinary hospital or canine and feline handling experience required
  • An employee in this position must have a sense of caring for animals, be able to lift approximately 50 pounds, walk dogs of up to 130 pounds.
Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities
  • Professional client communication and education obtaining medical histories and symptoms along with electronic medical record keeping skills.
  • After the appointment – answer questions the client may have, insure that client has received and understands all medications, after care, client education, and follow up appointments needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service, and insure that both pets and clients are comfortable and have their needs meet.
  • Laboratory procedures preparing or preforming: hematology, cytology, urinalysis, blood chemistry, and fecals.
  • Diagnostic imaging - Radiographs and Ultrasound
  • Restrain pets for veterinarians and nurses
  • Anticipate doctors needs for well and sick pet appointments
  • Provide compassionate care for pets, monitor, record, and report physical signs of pets here for appointments or treatments. May assist with hospitalized patients as well.
Compensation
  • The base hourly range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00. Our pay ranges are primarily determined by role and level of responsibilities. Within the range, individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and additional factors such as relevant education or training.
