What does this role do at AHIMA?

The Exam Program Manager position has primary responsibility for the test production and test publication activities essential to AHIMA's certification programs. This role ensures the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of AHIMA's certification exams while upholding accreditation standards and compliance with industry best practices.

The Exam Program Manager will collaborate with internal teams, external accrediting bodies, and various Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure exam content aligns with evolving industry needs and accreditation requirements. This position will also engage with key internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, professional organizations, and academic institutions, to support the integrity, validity, reliability, and defensibility of AHIMA's certification exams. Additionally, the role will oversee quality assurance processes to maintain accreditation compliance and enhance the overall certification program's credibility and recognition within the healthcare industry.

What are some of the responsibilities?

  • Assist with the coordination of exam launch schedules and activities.
  • Build and export exam forms using item banking tool for exam publishing.
  • Facilitate exam review and approval workshops with SMEs and internal staff.
  • Assist psychometrician with job task analysis and standard setting workshops.
  • Design and distribute surveys for exam content outline reviews/job task analysis.
  • Create and maintain item/exam documentation, including final source documents and documentation of exam-related issues.
  • Manage subject matter expert (SME) volunteers in the item development, review, editing, and blueprint alignment process.
  • Manage multiple item banks and maintain security of exam forms, and confidential candidate and vendor information.
  • Frequently monitor item performance, exam performance, candidate comments, and exam volume and pass rate.
  • Collaborate with CCHIIM on updates and process improvements to exams.
  • Lead certification accreditation projects
  • Assist with research, development, and enhancement of microcredentials and full credentials based on industry needs.

What are the knowledge and skills requirements?

  • Master's degree in a related field and 2 years of experience working in exam development or 5 years of experience in developing exams for a major licensure or certification organization.
  • Experience writing assessment items.
  • Experience facilitating item writing workshops.
  • Experience working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
  • Excellent data organization and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of project planning and management procedures, practices, and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts quickly, act as a team player and adapt to change and growth needs.
