Job Purpose

This role provides teaching assistance under the supervision of a licensed teacher, supporting the implementation of Individual Education Programs for students with disabilities in classrooms or as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Assist students with disabilities by preparing and modifying instructional materials and supporting the development and implementation of Individual Education Programs.
  • Provide physical assistance based on students' needs, including toileting, positioning, feeding, and hygiene.
  • Cover classes during short-term teacher absences.
  • Support classroom activities, prepare instructional materials, and assist with technology.
  • Collect data and monitor student progress.
  • Ensure students' safety by following established procedures.
  • Perform clerical tasks to support teaching and school operations.
  • Respond to inappropriate behaviors and be trained in positive behavioral interventions, including physical restraint if necessary.
  • Model appropriate social behaviors during community or work-based learning experiences.
  • Chaperone students on field trips during school hours.
  • Utilize reading, handwriting, numeracy, and communication skills to support teacher responsibilities and comply with IDEA and IEP requirements.
  • Demonstrate basic sign language, communication facilitation, and Brailing skills as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Attend meetings and follow safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including physical support for students with special needs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; basic technology skills; clerical experience preferred.
  • Supporting PreK-12 curriculum knowledge preferred.
  • Must have one of the following before reporting: (1) 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours; (2) an Associate’s degree or higher; (3) passing score on PRAXIS Parapro Exam.
  • One year of experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students with diverse disabilities.
Compensation

Salary depends on education and experience. Grade C.
