Job description

Overview

The Design Manager’s primary duty includes exercising discretion and independent judgment in managing the design of components manufactured by 84 Lumber. This includes, but is not limited to, interpreting and designing engineered components and panels from architectural prints to produce placement layouts and engineered truss drawings. The position also involves providing supervision, leadership, and development for the design technical staff to manage these tasks efficiently. Additionally, the role requires mentoring designers to improve communication skills and supervising their work to ensure accuracy and quality.

Responsibilities

  1. Interpretation and design of engineered components and panels from architectural prints to produce placement layouts and engineered truss drawings.
  2. Supervise and direct designers’ work to ensure accurate designs.
  3. Schedule design work.
  4. Manage and resolve customer-related design issues and other miscellaneous design issues.
  5. Develop designers’ skills to enable their advancement through design levels.
  6. Communicate effectively with other teams, including sales, production, customer service, and management.

Qualifications

  • Experience with database software.
  • Proficiency in design software, including MiTek.
  • Knowledge of word processing software.
  • Experience with spreadsheet and internet software.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries and resolve complaints from customers.
  • Mulit-Family design experience.
