Job summary

Clear Creek County in Colorado is seeking an Evidence/Property and Evidence Technician to receive, store, release, and maintain security of evidence and property. You will safeguard chain of custody, assist at crime scenes, and document records for court and lab use.

The role requires IAPE certification within a year, CAPET training within a year, and strong office practices. May involve field duties and liaison with multiple agencies in a county environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Within the first year of employment, attend and become IAPE certified in a related property and evidence course(s).
• Within the first year of employment, attend the 40-hour CAPET training.
• Requires knowledge and ability to handle routine and special tasks with general assistance in the full range of job duties.
• Must be experienced in office practices.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all County and Departmental policies, procedures, and all laws and regulations as they pertain to the management of the assigned area.
• Maintains the integrity of all property and evidence and keeps it secure from loss, theft, and contamination.
• Maintains chain of custody by logging all actions associated with the property and evidence.
• May assist in collecting, processing, packaging, and preserving evidence at crime scenes as directed by investigating detectives.
• Keeps records at crime scenes (logs, entry logs, documentation).
• Ensures the release and disposal of evidence and property in a legal and timely manner.
• Organizes and documents temporary release and return of property for court or lab analysis.
• Acts as liaison between Sheriff's Office and other agencies; may testify in court.
• Provides copies of evidence to DA's Office (CDs, DVDs, tapes, photos).
• Assists Sheriff, Captains, Lieutenant, Sergeants, including CCIC terminal duties and admin duties.
