Job summary

The Stronghold Companies seeks an Equipment Operator to safely operate power construction equipment including graders, bulldozers, scrapers and loaders on assigned projects.

You will follow safety protocols, read signals from crew, perform inspections, complete paperwork and maintain equipment in good condition. A Class A CDL and previous industrial construction experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years' experience operating construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and tools used in industrial construction.
  • Possession of a Class A driver's license with a clean MVR.

Responsibilities

  • Operate power construction equipment to excavate, move, grade earth, and pour concrete.
  • Coordinate machine actions with crew signals to move loads safely.
  • Inspect equipment for defects and report malfunctions to supervision.
  • Complete job tickets and paperwork as required.
  • Maintain safe working environment in client facilities.

Job description

Summary/Objective

The position of an Operator is responsible for safely operating one or several types of power construction equipment. An Operator will perform work toward its projects’ goal of Safety, Quality, Productivity and Service and work as required to maximize the quality of the Company while maintaining the specified expectations of the client and ensure safe working environment while performing work. This position will conduct all Company business in accordance with Company policies and procedures and maintain professionalism throughout all business dealings, both internally and externally.

Essential Functions

  • Operate one or several types of power construction equipment such as motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, compressors, pumps, derricks, shovels, tractors or front‑end loaders to excavate, move and grade earth, erect structures, place or move materials and pour concrete.
  • Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
  • Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment or other materials using trucks, crawler tractors, shovels, graders or other related equipment.
  • Operate tractors or bulldozers to perform such tasks as clearing land, mixing sludge, trimming backfills or other related tasks.
  • Avoid potential hazards or obstructions such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers or falling objects.
  • Prepare for work by servicing needed equipment with water, oil, gas and lubricating moving parts.
  • Clean and maintain equipment.
  • Inspect equipment for defective parts and notify Supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
  • Fuel and lubricate equipment.
  • Complete job tickets, service quality summaries and all other necessary paperwork, as required.
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Assist with the cleaning and correct loading of company equipment and trailers.
  • Ensure safe working environment while performing work in the client’s facilities.
  • Promptly report any job scope changes to the Foreman, Superintendent and/or General Foreman.
  • Maintain communication with Supervisor while performing tasks.
  • Take leadership of assigned duties.
  • For safety reasons, read and speak fluent English.
  • Follow all Company Safety, Quality Control/ Quality Assurance procedures and OSHA guidelines.
  • Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  • Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company and client.
  • Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This job operates in a petrochemical/refinery environment. Exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months. Exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. All employees will be required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position of an Equipment Operator (Light) can be extremely physical at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required, and for long periods of time to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength and dexterity. An Equipment Operator (Light) will frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 51 pounds. Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms. Must possess foot agility and dexterity for operating pedals, foot control and similar tasks. Must be able to grasp, grip and apply pressure to objects with the fingers, palm or hand. Must meet OSHA promulgated standards as being physically able to safely operate.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a project‑based position. Typical days and hours of work are variable/ project dependent. Over‑time work is common and may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is expected. Extensive travel throughout U.S. and overnight stay for extended periods of time.

Required Education And Experience

High school diploma or equivalent work experience and 2 years’ prior work experience operating commercial or industrial construction equipment. Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in industrial or commercial construction. Class “A” driver’s license and clean MVR.

Preferred Education And Experience

5 years’ prior work experience in related industry. Petrochemical/refinery experience. NCCER/NCCCO certification. First Aid and CPR trained.
