Job Summary:

The Journeyman Electrician will plan, layout, install, and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, terminations, and control equipment. Direct and train electrical helpers to support the task listed above.

Overview of Primary Duties:

  • Plan, layout, install, and repair wiring, conduit, electrical fixtures, apparatus, terminations and control equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems
  • Measure, cut bend, thread assemble, and install electrical conduit using such tools as a hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender
  • Measures, cuts, splices, and installs cable trays and wire trays
  • Splices wire by stripping insulation from terminal leads with an electrical knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps
  • Connect wires to power equipment such as electrical motors, switch gears, and transformers
  • Test continuity of circuits using equipment such as VOM, Megger, Amp Meter, etc.
  • Disassembles and repairs defective electrical equipment or systems
  • Connects power cables to equipment, electrical motors, switch gears, transformers, air switches and installs grounding leads
  • Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, and fastens in place with crews or bolts using hand or power tools

    • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices
    • Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
    • Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
    • Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
    • Participate in workplace inspections.
    • Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
    • Participate in required and assigned training.
    • Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
    • Present a mature approach to working safely.
    • Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
  • Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Qualifications:

Level III:

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related electrical experience
  • NCCER Electrical journeyman certification

Level II:

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related electrical experience
  • NCCER “Performance” Electrical journeyman verification
  • Other verified experiences or certifications with electrical experience

Level I:

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related electrical experience

Requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan, and perform work activities independently
  • The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience
  • Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
  • Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

  • Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
  • Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
  • Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
