Reports to: Senior Director, Events

Classification: Exempt

Position Type: Full-Time Employee

Pay Band: $56,000 - $76,000

General Description

The Manager, Events assists in managing the day-to-day operations of the Events Team. Reporting to the Senior Director, Events, this position creates seamless event experiences and helps to manage the daily operations of the Events Team.

This role requires managing multiple projects at once, making quick decisions, and helping to manage daily team operations. The Manager, Events must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Key job functions

Event Planning

  1. Develop event concepts, objectives, and timelines.
  2. Create detailed event plans and checklists.
  3. Track project management for the Events team - helping to alleviate sticking points and track completion and approvals.
  4. Day to day Event team support and management, including but not limited to Hive project management, agenda development, streamlining communication across teams, supporting the weekly project calls.
  5. Draft RFPs and manage the proposal process for the Events team.
  6. Schedule prep calls and briefings with Blue Star Families leadership, external partners and stakeholders, maintain call notes and agendas.
  7. Support Senior Manager, Events to source, & negotiate vendor contracts and relationships.

Logistics Management

  1. Post- event evaluation to include analyzing event performance to identify areas of improvements.

Additional Tasks

  1. Complete Hive project management and development for Events team.
  2. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required experience, skills, background

  1. 2-4 years of relevant experience
  2. Proficiency with Microsoft and GSuite products
  3. Experience and/or comfort working in a virtual environment
  4. Commitment to the highest standards of professionalism
  5. Ability to quickly and effectively gather information by means of interviews, research, phone calls, etc.
  6. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  7. Ability to produce high-quality work on deadline; comfortable managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  8. Strong attention to detail
  9. Experienced content writer and strategic thinker
  10. Flexibility with work schedule in support of deadlines and events
  11. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary to carry out key job functions
  12. Some travel may be required
  13. Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs.
