Hiring Range: $60,487 - $72,585 Annually

Full Range: $60,487 - $84,682 Annually

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

The Events Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating Pima County program goals, policies, and contracts while ensuring compliance with regulations and managing program budgets. Additionally, they represent the program in the community, foster relationships with external agencies, and may oversee staff, public relations activities, and grant submissions.

Essential Functions:

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

  • Coordinates and provides oversight for county events, including scheduling with venues and managing event logistics;

  • Develops program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; establishes short- and long-range program performance plans subject to management review;

  • Develops, negotiates, and administers contracts, intergovernmental agreements, and financial/service agreements for county events;

  • Manages and evaluates program activities to ensure event success and compliance with county goals and regulations;

  • Develops, writes, and administers the program's annual budget, prepares financial forecasts, and identifies funding sources to support program activities;

  • Reviews and analyzes reports on event status and success, initiating corrective actions or improvements as necessary;

  • Serves as the program's representative within the community, delivering news releases, coordinating public awareness activities, and engaging with local organizations;

  • Monitors program contract compliance and takes corrective action as required to ensure contract terms are met;

  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with county departments, public and private agencies, and local organizations to promote county events and their goals;

  • Ensures program compliance with applicable federal, state, and local legislation and policies;

  • Supervises county staff involved in event coordination, providing leadership, training, and performance evaluations;

  • Prepares and submits proposals, grant applications, and public relations materials to support county events and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public or business administration or a closely related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND two years of progressively responsible program administration experience or experience directly related to the nature of the program.

(Relevant professional level experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

Two years of experience with Pima County as a Program Coordinator or closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Bachelor's Degree in sports management, entertainment management, venue management, parks & recreation administration, or related field.

  • Experience with/knowledge of multi-faceted event planning and management to include a variety of special, community, civic, entertainment and/or sporting events on local, regional, and national levels.

  • Event management, customer service, and operations experience with single, multi-day and simultaneous events ranging in size, up to 10,000 people.

  • Experience with/knowledge of budgets, ordering supplies, and equipment.

  • Supervisory experience of professional and support staff including training and evaluating staff.

  • Experience with/knowledge of working with various software programs including Microsoft Office, Windows 10, and automated scheduling systems.

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. Supplemental Information:

Licenses and Certificates : Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application. Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items : The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions may require completion of a satisfactory personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies, due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities, records, and communication systems.

Working Conditions:Works a schedule including rotating days, evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts.
