Role & Reporting Structure

Role: Events Manager (EM)

Status:Full-Time (Exempt)

Reports to: Chief Operations & Development Officer (CODO)

Summary

The Events Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and executing all aspects of Angel City Sports’ four premier annual sporting events and bringing organizational structure and efficiency to sport scope and planning. As a member of the Angel City Sports (ACS) team, the Events Manager will play a key role in transforming the lives of many people through the power of sports while also helping to lead the Paralympic Movement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute four premier programmatic sporting events including Youth Games in Los Angeles (March), Angel City Games in Los Angeles (June), Youth Camp in San Diego (July), and Courage Weekend in Los Angeles (October).Areas of responsibility include planning, strategy, management, and oversight.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Operations & Development Officer and CEO to plan the overall financial goals of each event, as well as develop other objectives and KPIs related to measurable data points in sport scope / access, participation (athletes, volunteers, supporters, partners, etc.), impact, digital and social media impressions, and media impressions.
  • Lead, manage, and collaborate with the team on the scope of sport program (both clinics and competitions) for each event and secure all necessary NGB and partner support, infrastructure, vendors, officials, equipment, etc. to deliver the best sport program possible.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications Manager to assist with marketing / communication, management and oversight, and planning and execution, including web, digital, social, email, and PR to promote event attendance/participation.
  • Collaborate with the Community Relations Coordinator and manage and collaborate with Outreach Ambassadors to drive event awareness and participation (athletes, volunteers, and non-profit partners in the Experience Zone).
  • Recruit and supervise volunteer leadership team members to supplement ACS staff; oversee development and implementation of broader event volunteer programs; task delegation re: volunteers to appropriate ACS team members and follow through with volunteer commitments.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain long lasting, professional relationships with stakeholders, donors, partners, and vendors; with facility partners (City of San Diego, El Camino College, Harvard Westlake School, San Diego Community College District, etc.) to plan premier events out as far as possible (12-24 months minimum).
  • Maintain a budget and track financial records.
  • Manage all event logistics including vendor and partner communication.
  • Develop processes and coordinate organizational procedures for optimized efficiency and productivity, including annual timelines to ensure advance planning and scoping to optimize participation, awareness, and financial outcomes.
  • Assist Chief Operations & Development Officer with fundraising events as needed, including the Awards Gala and Courage Luncheon, and supervise other team members to ensure proper and complete execution and follow-through.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Administration and/or Non-Profit Management (or another related field) required
  • Experience planning and executing multi-day events, sports experience a plus
  • Experience with financial and statistical record-keeping techniques, accounting/bookkeeping
  • Proficient in participant and volunteer registration systems (Active.com, Sports Engine)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Familiar with donor databases and systems (Virtuous, Classy)

Experience working in special events and fundraising in the non-profit sector a plus

  • Strong interpersonal skills including experience building and maintaining relationships with a diverse network of individuals (participants, volunteers, sponsors, donors) and partner organizations (sponsors, NGO and programming, facilities, and non-profits)
  • Ability to self-manage and manage others, action oriented, ability to prioritize work assignments, and manage multiple deadlines
  • Detail oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage and lead others with different responsibilities supporting one common event and mission
  • Self-motivated; creative, innovative, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment at least 2 days per week, with the remaining days optional to work from home. The in-office schedule for ACS staff is evolving and subject to change.
  • The position will require working some nights and weekends.
  • Lifting 25 pounds from supplies, sports equipment, etc. if needed.
  • Coordination of event will require organizing, managing, preparing, and transporting Angel City Sports equipment and materials

Salary Range: $65k-$80k, based on experience
