Event Technician and Operator
Job Summary
Provide technical support and operations for the John and Joan Mullen Center for the Performing Arts, managing staging, audio, lighting, video, safety, and related production functions across a variety of performance and instructional spaces.
Responsibilities
- Implement, repair, troubleshoot, and operate technical aspects such as staging, audio, theatrical lighting, video, safety, and other related production functions for the center’s performance spaces, classrooms, rehearsal rooms, dance studio, lobbies, and ancillary rooms.
- Provide lighting, sound, and video operations during days, nights, and weekends.
- Collaborate with University departments and student organizations—particularly the Villanova Theatre Department, Academic Departments, Office of Student Life, Office of Music Activities, student groups, alumni organizations, and external clients—to coordinate staff and student efforts and realize the Mullen Center’s educational and recreational objectives.
- Report to the Technical Coordinator/Stage Supervisor I and Technical Coordinator/Stage Supervisor II, providing periodic updates on progress toward goals, long‑range plans, and operational details.
- Serve as Stage Manager or Assistant Stage Manager for Mullen Center performances and events, as necessary.
- Maintain flexibility for last‑minute work calls and variable work shifts.
Qualifications
- Event experience related to staging, audio, stage lighting, video, rigging, safety, or other production and event functions.
- Excellent communication skills within an academic environment, ability to instruct, supervise, and clearly explain technical information, operating procedures, and safety protocols to diverse audiences.
- Strong customer‑service orientation and proven ability to develop and sustain productive relationships.
Physical Demands
- Work at heights and lift up to 50 pounds.
Compensation
Wage Rate: $13 per hour.
