Job Overview

Under general supervision, performs full range of unskilled and semi‑skilled manual tasks relating to the assembly and disassembly of public events activities and maintenance of the Convention Center facilities and equipment.

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepare public events by assembling, arranging, and disassembling furniture, tables, chairs, and staging.
  • Perform custodial duties such as sweeping, scrubbing, removing debris, and mopping between and during events.
  • Maintain the building, grounds, and equipment with activities including painting; basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repair; and mechanical repair of facility equipment (e.g., forklift, mechanical sweeper).
Other Job Functions
  • Operate required equipment and tools including forklift, mechanical sweeper, hand radio, etc.
  • Provide information and give directions.
  • Notify supervisor of equipment and facilities in need of repair as well as supplies that need to be ordered.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and practices used in maintenance and custodial work.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, procedures, and regulations applicable to work being performed.
  • Skill in basic carpentry, painting, and equipment work.
  • Ability to work irregular hours as required.
  • Ability to work in fast‑paced environments with rigorous deadlines.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and make decisions.
  • Physical ability to see, push, stoop, and climb to and from extreme heights.
  • Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklift, lawn mower, buffer, and hand radio.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Subject to fume/odor, dust/mites, chemical, mechanical, and electrical hazards.
Qualifying Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED, plus a minimum of one (1) year experience performing general facility or building maintenance work or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Operator’s License, Class C.
