Job summary

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is seeking an Event Build/Strike Assistant for part-time work in Miami. You will assist with setup and teardown, move and arrange equipment, and support technical setups under staff direction.

The role requires physical stamina and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ideal candidates have strong attention to safety, basic technical awareness (lighting/sound), and the ability to manage inventory while maintaining a positive team dynamic.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Event & Hospitality experience a plus.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.
• Comfortable working on feet for long periods and performing repetitive physical tasks.
• Ability to remain stable under pressure and handle stressful situations effectively
• Capability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Attention to detail, ensuring that locations are in proper condition and ready for events.
• Ability to interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Must prioritize safety in all tasks
• Valid driver’s license (if role includes driving event vehicles).

Responsibilities

• Assist with event setup and teardown, including moving, assembling, and positioning tables, chairs, tents, signage, and other equipment.
• Load and unload event materials, supplies, and equipment from vehicles or storage areas.
• Support technical setup (lighting, audio, staging) under direction of event or production staff.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of event spaces, rental tables, chairs and equipment and assist with inventory management before, during, and after events
• Actively participate in the movement and storage of equipment, including tables and chairs.
• Perform assigned tasks using small hand tools, power tools, power washers, and electronic golf carts. Troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise.
• Follow safety procedures and use tools and equipment properly.
• Provide on-site support during events for logistics, deliveries, or emergency adjustments.
• Sort and organize inventory.
• Report damages, shortages, safety or maintenance issues promptly.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with managers, co-workers, clients, and others.

OVERVIEW

The Event Build/Strike Assistant supports the setup, execution, and breakdown of events by performing hands-on physical tasks and ensuring event spaces are safe, functional, and visually ready. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys active, team-oriented work in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in creating seamless events experiences.
