Job summary

180 Degrees, Inc. seeks a dedicated Youth Advocate for the Rochester Youth Shelter in Rochester, MN. This full‑time evening role involves engaging with youth, building trust, and providing stability in a shelter setting.

Youth Advocates work with case managers and support staff to deliver consistent care, safety, and basic daily living support while maintaining professional boundaries and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance required; ability to drive company vehicle.
• Ability to pass a criminal background study.
• Experience working with youth preferred.
• Must be able to lift, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and use stairs.
• Must be able to walk regularly including stairs for safety checks.
• Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation.

Responsibilities

• Be a stabilizing, trustworthy presence for youth navigating trauma and instability.
• Build genuine relationships that help youth feel seen, safe, and supported.
• Manage the day-to-day rhythm of the shelter: milieu management, structure, and support.
• De‑escalate calmly when emotions escalate.
• Assist with daily living needs and health needs management.
• Collaborate with a team of Youth Advocates and case managers.
• Document and support case management goals with thorough notes.
