Job summary

YMCA of East Tennessee is seeking a lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, promoting member safety and engagement in line with the Y’s values.

Hours: Weekdays 4:30-8:30pm (or 5-8:45pm) and weekends 7am-12pm or 12-5:30pm. No educational requirements; must pass lifeguard water test and read safety rules; duties include surveillance, records, equipment checks, chemical testing, and trainings.

Qualifications

• There are no educational requirements for this position.
• Must be able to pass lifeguard water test.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with groups and staff.

Responsibilities

• Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
• Maintains positive relationships with members, participants and staff.
• Keeps accurate records as required by the Y and health department.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures equipment is available as needed.
• Inspects pool for hazardous conditions on arrival.
• Performs chemical testing and documents results; takes action as needed.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; follows Y policies and procedures; completes incident reports when necessary.
• Other duties may be assigned.
