Job summary

BMC Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to perform decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments across the hospital and affiliated offices.

Applicants should have a High School diploma; certification in sterile processing is preferred. The role requires the ability to lift up to 60 pounds, work in PPE, and maintain infection control standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification in sterile processing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Retrieves contaminated instruments and delivers sterile instruments to where needed.
• Removes debris by manually cleaning instrument.
• Responsible for operation and maintenance of decontamination equipment.
• Inspects instruments and equipment to ensure patient safety.
• Tests and reports detected problems with equipment.
• Keeps track of items that have been cleaned and sterilized.
• Removes waste from transfer carts.
• Organizes, stores, and keeps records of sterile supplies.
• Checks expiration dates on supplies.
• Maintains a clean work area following infection control standards.
• Operates all central sterile machinery.
• Follows policies and procedures in completing tasks.
• Delints towels and sheets.
