Job summary

Kern High School District is seeking a Custodian for Bakersfield High School to perform cleaning, maintenance and grounds work at an assigned site. The position requires physical work and follows a shift from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Starting salary is $3,594.62 per month, with 12 months of employment. Candidates must have a California driver's license, read and write at required level, and be willing to undergo safety training and background checks as part of pre-employment steps.

Qualifications

• This position requires knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work, along with the knowledge of maintaining school buildings and grounds in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
• Must possess the ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency; perform heavy physical labor; understand and carry out oral and written directions; maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• One year of experience in custodial or general labor work is required. Applicants must have the ability to read and write at a level necessary to perform the duties of the position.
• MUST POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE. MUST SUBMIT A RECENT DMV (3 YEAR MINIMUM) DRIVING RECORD WITH APPLICATION.
• THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE TRAINED AND RESPONSIBLE FOR THE KERN HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT'S NEEDS WITH REGARDS TO ASBESTOS AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS.
• A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK AND PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision performs general cleaning, custodial functions, grounds maintenance and gardening work at an assigned school site. Exercises responsibility for the general cleanliness of assigned locations and performs a variety of duties in the upkeep of assigned school site and related areas.
