Job summary

Boone County Schools is seeking a dedicated Custodian for the evening shift to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming school environment. The role supports students and staff by ensuring attractive facilities and proper maintenance across classrooms, hallways, and common areas.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, the ability to lift 50 pounds, and the capacity to follow written guidelines. It offers healthcare, retirement, and paid holidays, with a schedule of 2:30–11:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read and follow written directions.
• Physical ability for heavy labor and lifting at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to relate and work well with people.
• Demonstrates aptitude for assigned responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Be familiar with and follow written guidelines, policies, procedures and directions from supervisor related to job responsibilities.
• Keep building and premises neat and clean at all times including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas.
• Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning to provide seasonally appropriate temperatures and economical usage.
• Shovel, plow, and maintain walks, driveways and parking areas as appropriate.
• Check daily to ensure exits are open and panic hardware works during occupancy hours.
• Raise the United States flag at or before 8:00 a.m. on school days and lower it at assigned time.
• Sweep, mop, wet-wash floors and clean fixtures on schedule.
• Clean corridors after school and as needed during the day.
• Disinfect toilet floors and clean fixtures daily.
• Remove waste and trash.
• Wash windows twice yearly.
• Perform yard keeping for safety and attractiveness.
• Clean chalkboards weekly.
• Maintain clean floors in good condition.
• Report damage to school property immediately.
• Remain on premises during school hours and during non-school hours as required.
• Open/close building daily and manage lights, heat, windows, doors.
• Move furniture as directed for activities.
• Comply with storage and disposal laws for trash.
• Make minor repairs such as chairs, desks and locks.
• Daily kitchen cleaning and waste removal.
• Shelve deliveries in proper storage areas.
• Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
