Job summary

Monson Public Schools is seeking a Night Custodian for Granite Valley School to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly learning environment. Duties include cleaning classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, and common areas to prepare the building for students and staff.

The role reports to the Head of Maintenance and School Principal. Work hours are 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. during 180 school days plus five days before the school year, with hourly pay of $18–$20.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous custodial experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Ability to operate custodial equipment including vacuums, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning equipment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and the public.
• Valid Massachusetts driver's license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the building and replace liners as needed.
• Vacuum carpets in classrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Sweep and clean all hard surface floors.
• Clean and disinfect student and staff restrooms daily.
• Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, partitions, and other restroom fixtures.
• Dust windowsills, ledges, and other surfaces.
• Clean classrooms, offices, cafeterias, hallways, stairwells, entrances, and other assigned areas.
• Spot clean walls, doors, windows, lockers, and other surfaces as needed.
• Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and toilet tissue dispensers.
• Secure assigned areas by locking doors and reporting any security concerns at the end of each shift.
• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, vandalism, or damaged equipment to the Head of Maintenance.
• Follow all district safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
• Maintain custodial equipment and cleaning supplies in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
• Respond to emergency cleaning situations, including spills and other custodial needs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
