Job summary

SOUTHEAST POLK COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT seeks a Custodian for 4:00pm-9:00pm, Monday through Friday, at Willowbrook Elementary. Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms, restrooms, and hallways; maintaining floors; and supporting events and general building safety.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, basic math and reading/writing skills, and the ability to work independently or in a team. First aid and fire/safety knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to perform basic math for weights, volumes and distances.
• Ability to read, write and interpret rules and manuals.
• Clear spoken and written communication.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Recognize problems, determine causes and act to resolve.
• Basic knowledge to identify hazardous chemicals.
• Knowledge of floor maintenance techniques (carpet, tile, terrazzo).
• First aid certificate and knowledge of fire/safety codes.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and preserves designated spaces to health standards.
• Vacuum carpets and clean rugs, upholstery as needed.
• Sweep, scrub, wax and polish floors with appropriate equipment.
• Dust and polish furniture and equipment.
• Wash windows, walls, ceilings and woodwork; wax as needed.
• Empty wastebaskets and dispose of trash properly.
• Move and arrange furniture as required; assist events.
• Set up chairs; move cafeteria tables for events.
• Raise and lower the flag at start/end of day where applicable.
• Restock disposable items and track inventory usage.
