Job summary

Holy Cross Health in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician for an evening shift. The role includes specimen collection, labeling accuracy, processing, and acting as a liaison among physicians, nursing units and patients.

Qualifications

• High School graduate, GED or higher required.
• Six (6) months previous professional phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• One-year recent experience performing phlebotomy preferred.
• Ability to perform successful venipuncture without assistance.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Effective time management and scheduling without direct supervision.
• Professional communication with patients, physicians and staff.
• Ability to read and understand procedures involved in specimen collection.
• Ability to transport specimens promptly without compromising integrity.

Responsibilities

• Ensure patient identification and proper labeling of specimens 100% of the time.
• Participate in specimen processing, distribution and central accessioning.
• Accurately process and accession all incoming laboratory specimens.
• Confirm all required patient and specimen identification information is documented.
• Serve as primary lab communication liaison between physicians, units, offices and patients.
• Provide status updates on test reports and clarify physician orders.
• Generate reports for charting and assist in charting to patient care units.
• Perform reporting functions of lab reports and greet incoming department customers.
