Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso is seeking a Certified Laboratory Assistant to collect patient specimens, perform venipuncture and capillary punctures, and process samples for analysis. You will enter orders from paper requisitions into the Laboratory System and perform waived testing as requested.

Must have one year of phlebotomy experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a phlebotomy or medical assistant certificate.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant certificate required.
• One year of phlebotomy experience required.

Responsibilities

• Collect patient specimens (venous and capillary punctures).
• Process specimens for analysis and prepare for testing.
• Enter test orders from paper requisitions into the Laboratory System.
• Handle telephone requests or inquiries and provide specimen collection instructions.
• Perform waived testing as requested.
• Adhere to safety, QA/QC and regulatory requirements.
