Job summary

IHA in Iowa is seeking a part-time pharmacist for an evening shift to deliver patient-focused pharmaceutical care across ages. You will review orders for correct drug, dose and safety, supervise staff, and collaborate with the care team to optimize outcomes.

The role requires a Pharm.D./BS in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited program, Iowa licensure or eligibility, BLS within 3 months, and compliance with training and policies. MercyOne affiliation strengthens multidisciplinary care.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy degree (BS or Pharm.D.) from an ACPE-approved college of pharmacy.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in Iowa; licensure within 3 months of hire.
  • BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Other certification if requested by direct supervisors/managers.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and/or participates in assuring appropriate medications are prepared and delivered to care areas in a timely manner, and are stored securely and appropriately.
  • Collaborates with health care team to provide pharmacotherapy recommendations for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Supervises and mentors technicians, interns, and students during shifts.
  • Maintains quality and safety through quality control checks and documentation of errors and improvements.
  • Provides accurate drug information to health professionals and patients per MercyOne policies.
  • Participates in orientation and training of students, interns, and health professionals.
  • Adheres to state/federal laws, regulations, and pharmacy procedures.
  • Delivers professional customer service to patients and healthcare providers.
  • Performs other duties as directed by pharmacy leadership.

Description

Delivers patient focused, outcome oriented pharmaceutical care to patients of all ages, including neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Promote a positive work environment and interpersonal relationships, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Reviews and interprets physician orders to assure that the drug, dosage form, and dose is appropriate for the patient's age, weight, and comorbidities. Checks for drug incompatibilities and allergies, and takes appropriate action when necessary.

  • Oversees and/or participates in assuring appropriate medications are prepared and delivered to care areas in a timely manner, and are stored both securely and in a manner appropriate for both stability and effective workflow.
  • Works collaboratively with other healthcare team members to provide pharmacotherapy recommendations with intent to achieve optimal patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
  • Supervises and mentors technicians, interns, and students working during their shift in order to maintain the accuracy and quality of pharmaceutical services.
  • Maintains quality and safety in the department through completion of quality control checks, identifying and reporting out medication errors and near misses, identifying process improvements and ensures appropriate documentation.
  • Provides accurate and timely responses to other healthcare professionals and patients regarding drug information questions and MercyOne medication use policies to assure safe and appropriate use of medications.
  • Participates in the orientation, instruction and training of pharmacy students, interns, pharmacy technicians, residents, pharmacists and other health professionals.
  • Knowledgeable and adheres to State and Federal laws, regulations, pharmacy policies, procedures and standard operating procedures, formulary and pertinent clinical practice guidelines.
  • Provides professional, engaging customer service to all patients, and healthcare providers with whom they work.
  • Performs other job functions as directed by the pharmacy manager/supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Pharmacy degree (BS or Pharm.D.) from an ACPE approved college of pharmacy.
  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, pharmacist in Iowa. Must be licensed within 3 months of hire. 2. BLS certification within 3 months of hire. 3. Other certification if requested by direct supervisors/managers. 4. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
