Job summary

Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist for evening shifts to perform a broad range of laboratory tests in a pediatric hospital setting.

Responsibilities include high-level manual and automated assays, reporting results to nurses and physicians, and ensuring accurate specimen handling under supervision of the Medical Director and Laboratory leadership.

Qualifications

• MLT: ASCP certification within 1 year from date of hire; MT: MT (ASCP) within 1 year from date of hire.
• Two-year college/university AS degree required; one year internship or clinical coursework beyond AS degree (for MLT).
• BS in Medical Technology with clinical internship required (for MT).

Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies.
• Ensure infection control and safety practices in the Laboratory.
• Communicate lab results to nurses and physicians and report critical values.
• Coordinate with physicians, nursing staff, and other hospital personnel.
• Oversee specimen identification, integrity, and proper handling of the Pneumatic Tube System.
• Assist with disaster and CODE coverage as needed.
• Review and revise procedures in line with NCCLS guidelines.
• Ensure adequate supplies and restock across all shifts.
