Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist to join the Core Lab for an evening, full-time role at Bell Hospital. The MLS performs comprehensive laboratory testing, ensuring accurate and timely results, while adhering to quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities include instrument calibration, result review, phlebotomy, staff mentoring, and continuous education. The position may require floating to other locations within the system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Biological, Physical, Chemical or Clinical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution.
• High School Graduate.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy.
• Calibrates, maintains, operates and troubleshoots instrumentation and completes documentation.
• Completes continuing education and submits appropriate documentation.
• Follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards, policies and procedures.
• Mentors students, employees, residents and other health care providers as applicable.
• Maintains inventory and prepares reagents, standards, controls and specimens for analysis.
• Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
• Performs phlebotomy and sample collection as applicable.
• Reviews results and correlates with patient condition, initiates corrective action when indicated.
• Employee may float to other locations within the organization.
• Performs product preparations in compliance with FDA, cGMP, AABB standards where applicable.
• Uses PPE to perform duties safely.
