Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair, NJ, is seeking an evening-shift, part-time Medical-Surgical Unit Clerk to support the nursing unit.

The role involves providing secretarial support, coordinating admissions/transfers/discharges, and maintaining patient records with a patient-focused, team-oriented approach. Previous unit clerk experience is preferred; a high school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

• Must have strong office skills and interpersonal communication.
• Experience as a Unit Clerk or secretarial support in a hospital setting is preferred.
• Rate of pay is determined by experience and education, with potential differentials.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the nursing unit runs efficiently.
• Provide secretarial support for all employees in the unit.
• Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, other hospital departments, and unit staff.
• Coordinate with Care Management regarding admissions, transfers, and discharges; notify the hospitalist as needed.
• Maintain and update patient records for the unit.
• Perform general clerical and non-clinical duties and facilitate communication.
• Expedite interdepartmental services and keep required records on the unit.
• Assist nursing staff in coordinating unit activities.
• Assist with patient care/quality assurance audits.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
