Job summary

MercyOne Central Iowa is hiring a Lab Assistant to support multiple laboratory departments by assisting staff in collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting tests necessary for patient diagnosis and treatment.

Evening shift, part-time schedule 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with responsibilities including specimen collection, LIS entry, quality and safety adherence, and teamwork within a large hospital system.

Qualifications

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks as appropriate, with proper specimen collection.
• Registers and logs specimens in the LIS and ensures accurate labeling and documentation.
• Supports specimen processing and troubleshooting in collaboration with staff and clients.
• Operates LIS and contributes to general laboratory operations and data integrity.
