Goodwill Legacy Group in Indianapolis is seeking a dedicated janitor to maintain clean, safe facilities under the AbilityOne program. The role includes cleaning offices, courtrooms, lobbies, and restrooms, with a focus on reliable routines and safety.

You will operate cleaning tools, follow safety protocols, and support our mission by providing a healthy environment for staff and visitors, including setup for events and transporting supplies.

Qualifications

• Experience in janitorial cleaning and supply management.

Responsibilities

• Clean and polish fixtures, surfaces, and floors.
• Disinfect furniture and equipment; mop, wax, and polish floors.
• Empty trash, replenish bathroom supplies, and transport waste.
• Set up tables and chairs for events in auditoriums.
• Communicate with management and customers as needed.

The AbilityOne program is one of the largest sources of employment in the United States for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. GLG is one of about 500 non-profit organizations that provide employment opportunities in competitive, integrated environments at federal government locations.The Janitor keeps the premises of the office building or other commercial or institutional buildings in a clean and orderly condition. Cleans office areas, courtrooms, hallways, lobbies, breakrooms/cafeterias, restrooms, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other assigned work areas.Example Duties and ActivitiesCleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.Cleans and disinfects the furniture and equipment.Polishes metalwork.Wipes down walls, ceilings, and woodwork.Washes windows, door panels, and sills.Empties wastebaskets and empties and cleans ashtrays.Transports trash and waste to the disposal area.Replenishes bathroom supplies.Communicates with Goodwill management and customers when appropriate and as needed.Transports small equipment or tools between departments.Sets up tables and chairs in auditoriums or halls.Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.Required CompetenciesDegree and Credential Requirements - NONE! Cleans and disinfects bathrooms with cleaning products. Is able to learn how to properly use janitorial tools and equipment, including but not limited to dust cloths, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning chemical solutions.Floor Cleaning Equipment Expertise - Is able to operate and control riding and walk-behind scrubbers and other floor care equipment, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, to clean carpets and scrub hard floors.Other RequirementsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable people with disabilities to perform essential job functions.Moderate to Hard Physical Work - is regularly required to walk and frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
