Job summary

University of Chicago Medicine is seeking an Inpatient Phlebotomist to draw blood in the Nursing Inpatient Phlebotomy department. This 100% onsite role is based in the greater Chicagoland area.

The position involves drawing from adult units using Epic Beaker Rover, with a typical evening shift (3:00pm - 11:30pm) and potential on-call responsibilities at Hyde Park campus. Strong customer service and CLSI-guided phlebotomy skills are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of accredited phlebotomy program.
• Ability to perform venipunctures and capillary punctures per CLSI guidelines.
• Knowledge of asepsis; manual dexterity and accuracy.
• Ability to follow procedures with attention to detail.
• Experience with institutional computer systems.
• Strong communication with patients and healthcare staff.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage high patient volumes.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on adults in inpatient units.
• Package specimens for pneumatic tube delivery and hand-delivery when required.
• Provide collection instructions to patients and handle self-collected samples.
• Check-in patients and assist with rooming as needed.
• Maintain clean, stocked blood drawing area and carts; ensure safety and sterility.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and coordinate with clinic staff on issues.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
