Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver hands on healthcare skills instruction in lab and classroom settings.
• Prepare students for CPR, First Aid, HHA, CNA, and other relevant certifications.
• Assess student mastery and provide frequent, actionable feedback.
• Maintain lab safety, equipment, and instructional materials.
• Track student progress and communicate progress to the community through PowerSchool.
• Facilitate a structured independent study hall for students each day.
• Provide mentorship to a cohort of 4-5 students toward graduation requirements.
• Support CNA, Phlebotomy, or related programs as needed.
• Collaborate with the Evening School team to improve the program.

Job Title: Healthcare Instructor, Evening School (YouthBuild Philly Flex)

Part-Time, 10 month

Reports To: Evening School Principal

Hours of Operation:

The YouthBuild Evening School Program (YouthBuild Philly Flex) operates on an evening schedule designed for students who work during the day. This role is part-time and requires availability during evening instructional hours, typically 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM, along with occasional additional time for planning, professional development, and student events.

YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition free public charter high school serving young people ages 17–20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. Our program supports students in earning a high school diploma while gaining career exposure, industry certifications, and postsecondary pathways. YouthBuild operates within a restorative, community centered culture grounded in respect, excellence, and perseverance. The Evening School (YouthBuild Philly Flex) is a new program designed for students who are working during the day and need a flexible pathway to earn their diploma and build a career path.

The Opportunity:

The Evening School Healthcare Instructor prepares students for entry level employment and further training in the healthcare field. Students participate in hands-on skills training, certification preparation, and real world learning experiences aligned to industry standards.

This role supports students who are balancing work and life responsibilities and requires strong relationship building, flexibility, and a commitment to helping students persist and graduate.

Start-of-Year Planning & Orientation:

Prior to the start of the school year, the Evening School Healthcare Instructor will participate in onboarding, orientation, and collaborative planning to prepare for the launch of the Evening School Program.

This includes:

• Participating in new staff orientation and professional development
• Collaborating with school leadership and colleagues to understand program structures, schedules, and student supports
• Engaging in curriculum planning and unit preparation prior to the start of instruction
• Preparing classroom systems, materials, and expectations for the start of the school year

What You Will Do:

• Plan and deliver hands on healthcare skills instruction in lab and classroom settings
• Prepare students for CPR, First Aid, HHA, CNA, and other relevant certifications
• Assess student mastery and provide frequent, actionable feedback
• Maintain lab safety, equipment, and instructional materials
• Coordinate guest speakers, site visits, and industry exposure opportunities
• Collaborate with the specialized services team to ensure student success, by providing teacher input, attending IEP meetings and ensuring all students receive accommodations and modifications per their students’ IEPs and/or English language needs
• Track student progress, give frequent actionable feedback to students and communicate student progress to the greater community through PowerSchool
• Facilitate one section of independent study hall per day, providing a structured, supportive environment where students can focus on academic tasks, access guidance as needed, and develop effective study habits while ensuring a quiet and productive atmosphere
• Provide mentorship to a cohort of 4–5 students, offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward meeting graduation requirements
• Support students enrolled in CNA, Phlebotomy, or related programs as needed
• Contribute to a collaborative startup culture and continuous improvement of the Evening School program
• Perform other duties, as assigned by the Evening School Principal
